Asteroid may hit Mars

According to astronomers there is a 1 in 75 chance that an asteroid will slam into Mars on 30 January 2008.
The asteroid, called 2007 WD5, was discovered on 20 November by a 1.5 metre telescope near Tucson, Arizona, US, that combs the skies as part of NASA’s efforts to detect asteroids with a chance of hitting Earth.
It is an estimated 50 metres across, putting it in the same class as the Tunguska object that exploded over Siberia in 1908, flattening trees in an area extending many kilometres from the explosion.
If WD5 does hit Mars then the resulting impact will form a crater over a kilometer across, similar to Meteor Crater in Arizona, USA. There is also a slim chance that one of the orbiting probes or the rovers will manage to capture an image of the fireball blasting through the Martian atmosphere.

looks like conception, on a much larger scale of course.
