Xbox 360 to get IPTV
Robbie Bach yesterday unveiled a new IPTV service for the Xbox 360 at the Microsoft CES keynote. The IPTV (Internet Protocol TeleVision) service will offer access to on demand streaming broadcasts and allow users to play games on Xbox Live while watching and recording television in the background. Xbox IPTV is not expected to be available until this years holiday season and the programming will be from providers that are deploying TV services based on Microsoft TV IPTV Edition. There are not many other details available at the moment and at this stage it is unknown what the cost of the service will be.
Our goal is to make entertainment more personal, more interactive and more social,” Bach said. “IPTV on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live are powerful examples of ways we are bringing together the worlds of gaming, TV viewing and community to make it easy for people to access and discover their favorite content and share their personal experiences with the communities they are part of.
