“Plutoed” is the 2006 word of the year
The 2006 word of the year according to the American Dialect Society (ADS) is “Plutoed”.
To be “Plutoed” is to be demoted or devalued, just like what happened to the ex-planet Pluto which was downgraded from a Planet to a dwarf-planet late last year. The runner-up was “climate-canary” which is used to refer to an indicator of environmental health. This is the 17th year that the society have been running their word of the year competition.
