Firefox use almost doubled in 2006

The percentage of web users using Firefox rose from 9.6% to 14% in 2006, almost a 50% increase, conversely the market share of Internet Explorer fell during the same period to 79.6% from 85.1%. The release of v2.0 of the free browser certainly contributed to its increase in popularity combined with the fact that in my opinion web users are generally becoming more aware of alternatives. Another possible factor which should be mentioned is the renewed interest in Linux, caused in part by Ubuntu, with many users making the switch and installing Firefox / Thunderbird as their default browser and email client (I am one of the converts with Kubuntu exclusively on both my laptop and desktop machines).

14% adds up to a lot of users, and I’m sure 2007 will see that number grow significantly.
