Apple iPhone released

Yes it is called the “iPhone” even though Cisco has held the trademark on that name since the 90’s (apparently Apple and Cisco are finalising negotiations) and it was unveiled today at MacWorld 2007. It’s a beautiful looking device, super thin at 11.6mm! and runs OS X with support for widgets, Google Maps, Safari and iTunes. The screen is a 3.5 inch 480×320 touchscreen display with multi-touch support and a proximity sensor which turns the screen off when it is close to your face. Other specs include a 2 megapixel camera, your choice of 4GB or 8GB of storage. Bluetooth 2.0 with EDR and A2DP, auto engaging WiFi and quad-band GSM radio with EDGE. Apple are quoting 5 hours battery life for talk or video and 16 hours for music, there is no info on standby time as yet.
How much and when? In the US the 4GB iPhone will be available in June on a 2 year contract for $499, 8GB for $599. The iPhone will ship to Europe in the fourth quarter this year and to Asia in 2008.
