Purple apples soon in a supermarket near you

Australian scientists have won an international race to identify the genes that control an apple’s colour.
The gene that the team from CSIRO has identified acts as a “boss gene” in effect telling other genes when to start producing chemicals that produce colour.
The group says that this discovery would allow red Granny Smiths or even purple apples to be created.
