French had bin Laden in their sights…twice!
French Special Forces could have killed Osama bin Laden in 2003 and 2004 in Afghanistan, but the order to kill never came from the US commanders in charge according to a French Documentary.
The documentary which is certain to create controversy is called Ben Laden, les ratés d’une traque (Bin Laden, the Failures of a Manhunt).

If this is true then the question needs to be asked, was it incompetence on the part of the US or was the order to kill witheld for another reason? Would it suit the US to have bin Laden dead? There are many who would say it benefits them to have the spectre of bin Laden forever present.
